Historical Context

Founded in Nagpur on 27 September 1925 by Dr K. B. Hedgewar, the RSS recruited about 2,000 volunteers and expanded to over 5,000 shakhas by 1930. Its early emphasis on Hindu social capital and links to the Hindu Mahasabha created a grassroots model that persists today. The 2025 centenary rally, led by Mohan Hosabale and attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, revives that legacy.
