History

Historical Context

The Korean Armistice signed on 27 July 1953 created the Demilitarized Zone, a 4-kilometre-wide buffer that still separates North Korea and South Korea. Since then the United Nations Command, led by U.S. General Mark Clark, oversaw the planting of millions of mines, and more than 500 South Korean soldiers have been killed along the border.
