Fatal Crash in Winnipeg Involving Stolen, Impaired SUV

Collision Overview
Early Sunday morning, around 7 a.m., a stolen 2022 Honda CR-V traveling north on McGregor Street ran a red light at the intersection with Leila Avenue and struck a 2023 Kia Seltos. Police reported the CR-V was traveling at an estimated speed exceeding 100 km/h, became airborne, hit a traffic-light pole, rolled over, and then collided with a tree, causing catastrophic damage to both vehicles. The impact forced the CR-V to strike a traffic-light standard before coming to rest.
People Involved and Injuries
Four occupants were in the Honda: 19-year-old driver Dorian Beardy, a 20-year-old woman, a 22-year-old woman, and a 20-year-old man. The 20-year-old female passenger died in hospital. The 22-year-old woman remains in hospital with life-threatening injuries. The 20-year-old man and the 19-year-old driver were treated for minor injuries. The driver of the Kia, a 43-year-old man, was hospitalized with minor injuries and later released in stable condition.
Police Investigation and Charges
Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) officers on patrol witnessed the crash and provided first aid before paramedics arrived, according to Const. Claude Chancy, a police spokesperson. Beardy has been charged with possession of stolen property valued over $5,000, impaired driving, and failure to comply with conditions of a prior release order. Police also noted three outstanding warrants for aggravated assault and additional release-condition violations. WPS indicated that further charges are expected pending authorization from the Crown prosecutor’s office.
Community Response
Residents near the crash site reported hearing a loud bang; Anshika Sharda, who was sleeping nearby, described the scene as “really, really bad” and observed about ten police vehicles and additional emergency responders assembling at the intersection. Police have asked anyone with information or video of the incident to contact the Winnipeg Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
