Historical Context

Since its 1949 inauguration, Delhi University’s Students’ Union has been a stage for national parties, with the Congress-linked NSUI (founded 1971) and the ABVP competing each year. ABVP’s first presidency win in the 1990 DUSU election introduced its leadership role, a trend repeated in the 2026 contest where its candidates again secured top posts. Over 1.45 lakh students now vote each July-August.
