On March 15, a 14-year-old boy from Wiltshire entered a shop on Upper Churnside in Cirencester, Gloucestershire, after waiting in a nearby car park. The girl, also 14 and a classmate, had previously rejected his advances. The boy produced a 6-inch kitchen knife from his right pocket and launched a frenzied attack, stabbing the victim multiple times in the neck, hands, face and back, and striking her against a sweets rack. CCTV captured the assault, showing the boy also attempting to stab the shopkeeper, who sustained a cut to his back. Police recovered the knife from the boy’s jeans pocket and noted a fresh cut on his hand.
Court Outcome
The youth appeared at Bristol Crown Court, sitting as a youth court, and pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent, and possession of a bladed article in a public place. The court imposed a 12-month referral order and a three-year restraining order, and the boy was also given a one-year referral order at Gloucester Crown Court.
