Launch Details
EssilorLuxottica has introduced Nuance Audio Plus, the next-generation version of its FDA-cleared, open-ear hearing glasses. The glasses embed hearing-aid technology in the temple arms and are sold in the United States through authorized optical and hearing-care professionals. Three frame styles—Square 53, Panthos 48 and Upturn 52—are offered in five colors (shiny black, shiny burgundy, deep blue, amber, olive green). Retail pricing starts at $829, with higher costs for prescription lenses. The original Nuance Audio line remains available, beginning at $699.
Product Enhancements
Nuance Audio Plus adds several upgrades over the first-generation model. Battery life is extended to roughly 10 hours under typical use. Directional microphones with beamforming improve speech clarity, and users can select between “Frontal” (face-to-face conversation) and “All-Around” (ambient sound) audio modes via the Nuance Audio app. Four pre-configured amplification presets and three levels of background-noise reduction are available, with volume adjustable on a five-step scale. New on-frame controls include a dedicated power slider and volume buttons, reducing reliance on the smartphone. When paired with a compatible iPhone, the glasses allow hands-free answering of incoming calls—a feature not supported on Android devices.
Market Context & Reach
Hearing loss affects an estimated 1.6 billion people worldwide, about 1.25 billion of whom have mild to moderate loss, yet close to 90 percent have not adopted a hearing solution. In its first year, the Nuance Audio line expanded to 14 countries and more than 18,000 stores, reaching consumers on average five years younger than typical hearing-aid users, with two-thirds having never explored traditional devices.
Official Statement
Stefano Genco, global head of Nuance Audio, said the company’s earlier glasses received “extremely positive” consumer response, indicating demand for a more natural way to access hearing support and confirming the strategic aim of making hearing assistance a routine part of daily life.
