The women’s cricket final at Karogi Athletic Park in Nisshin, Aichi, saw India defeat Sri Lanka to claim the tournament’s first gold medal for the country. The victory marked the second consecutive Asian Games gold for the Indian women’s side and the nation’s inaugural gold in the 2026 edition.
Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Bronze Marks a First for India
In mixed-martial arts, Suchika Tariyal earned a bronze medal in the women’s 60 kg category, becoming the first Indian athlete to medal in MMA at the Asian Games. She finished behind Singapore’s Teo Hui Hoon, who took silver.
Overall Medal Tally and Outlook
India’s medal haul stands at seven medals—one gold, five silvers and one bronze—placing the country eighth on the overall medal table, which is led by China. With shooting, cricket and MMA already contributing, officials anticipate further contributions from athletics and archery as the Games progress.
