Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 Chipset

At the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii, Qualcomm introduced two new processors: the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. The company positioned the Extreme model as the “pinnacle of Snapdragon innovation,” designed for the most demanding AI workloads and to enable experiences that define what Qualcomm calls the “agentic age.” Qualcomm says the chip can run more than 30 billion different AI models on-device, providing unprecedented on-phone compute power for future applications.

The Extreme chip upgrades the imaging pipeline by giving each pixel 16 bits of data and tightly coupling the image-signaling processor with a dedicated neural-processing unit (NPU). Qualcomm highlights the ability to record video in 8K at 60 fps and 4K at 240 fps for ultra-slow-motion footage, promising more natural and consistent results for every shot.

Qualcomm’s new Sensing Hub, featuring dual micro-NPUs, can support AI models up to 200 million parameters. The updated Personal Scribe can build a private knowledge graph from messages, emails, and conversations, enabling the phone to recall past interactions, suggest nuanced answers, and even draft plans based on a user’s schedule, travel preferences, and work habits. The chip is marketed as capable of running over 30 billion models, allowing AI agents to begin tasks before a user opens an app.

For mobile gaming, the Extreme chip introduces Adreno Neural Fusion, an AI-rendering technology integrated across major engines such as Unreal, Unity, and Messiah. The system combines graphics and AI to upscale images while maintaining “rock-solid frame rates” at lower power consumption. With 18 MB of high-performance memory and AI-dedicated Adreno matrix cores, Qualcomm expects higher picture quality, smoother frame rates, and longer play times.
