History

Historical Context

Since Pakistan’s 2011 air raid that killed about 30 militants in Kunar, cross-border strikes have become a recurring flashpoint. The December 25 2024 PAF precision strike on Barmal killed 46 people, prompting Taliban retaliation and diplomatic protests. The September 2024 raids cited by Defence Minister Attaullah Tarar continue this pattern of disputed self-defence along the porous Afghanistan-Pakistan frontier.
