iOS 27 Lets Users Import Physical Passes into Apple Wallet

Apple’s iOS 27 update adds a feature that lets iPhone and Apple Watch owners import physical passes—such as loyalty cards, membership cards, and event tickets—directly into Apple Wallet. Users can point the iPhone’s camera at a barcode or QR code, or even use a screenshot of a digital card, and the system prompts them to save the pass. Once stored, the pass appears as a scannable barcode or QR code that can be presented from the iPhone or Apple Watch.

According to Apple, the process is initiated through Siri mode in the Camera app. After capturing the barcode, the user receives a prompt to add the pass to Wallet. The app also allows creation of a pass directly within Wallet, bypassing the need for a physical card entirely. The added passes behave like existing digital items in Wallet, displaying instantly when needed.

Apple Wallet already supports credit and debit cards, driver’s licenses, transit cards, boarding passes, car, home, and hotel keys. The new import capability expands the app’s scope, aiming to replace the remaining physical items that many businesses still issue. By consolidating these items, Apple seeks to reduce the “mental burden” of remembering separate cards and tickets.
