Incident Overview
On September 25, 2026, a stone or other object struck the Nagpur-Mumbai CSMT Duronto Express (train 12290) shortly after it passed Borkhedi Station in Maharashtra, about 35 km from Nagpur. At approximately 8:27 pm, the projectile hit the windows of coaches A-1, B-2 and B-5, cracking the glass and sending fragments into the compartments. No passengers were injured.
Search and Investigation
Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel began a search after receiving a report at 8:46 pm. The operation covered the Borkhedi-Sindhi section between kilometre 803 and kilometre 796, as well as nearby villages of Borkhedi and Brahmani. Police questioned the local Police Patil and residents but found no suspicious individual or concrete evidence. A crime case No. 325/2026 under Section 153 of the Railway Act was registered against an unknown person at 2:55 am on Saturday. Officials continue to investigate the precise location from which the stone was thrown.
Official Response
Dr Swapnil Nila, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Central Railway, confirmed that RPF and GRP conducted the search and that the incident was reported promptly. Indian Railways stated that the window damage was limited to the three mentioned coaches and that the train remained in service after the shattered panes were secured. The railway authority emphasized that passenger safety was not compromised and that further inquiry is underway.
