The latest phase of the programme involves constructing what the estate describes as the United Kingdom’s largest beaver enclosure. A spokesperson for Elmore Court confirmed that the enclosure will be built alongside the existing rewilding features. Custodian Anselm Guise explained that the project aims to balance ecological restoration with the estate’s economic viability. Guise noted that the construction is expected to take roughly two years from commencement.
Economic and Ecological Goals
According to the estate’s statements, the beaver enclosure is intended to enhance the local ecosystem by reintroducing a keystone species that can create wetland habitats, improve water quality, and support a broader range of wildlife. At the same time, the project is positioned as a means to generate visitor interest and related revenue, helping to sustain the estate’s operations while “protecting and restoring nature,” as Guise put it.
