Mass Licence Suspensions Target 11 Hyderabad Restaurants

On September 26, the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) suspended the FSSAI licences of eleven eateries in the Madhapur, Hitec City and Gachibowli areas and ordered them to cease operations immediately. The affected outlets include Antera Kitchen and Bar, Fusion 9/Amnesia Sky Bar, Al Saba Restaurant, Shivani – The Restaurant and Bar, Lucky Multicuisine, Sai Ram Mess, Udupi’s Upahar, Coal Spark, Kanchi Cafe, Monastery and several others listed by TG SAFE. Inspectors documented cockroach and rodent infestations, fungal-contaminated or expired food, improper storage of vegetarian and non-vegetarian items together, blocked drains, broken tiles, greasy walls and floors, and unlabelled products. TG SAFE lifted 21 food samples on suspicion of adulteration.

Earlier Enforcement Actions

A related drive on September 24 resulted in the suspension of licences for eight additional restaurants and the closure of one establishment operating without a licence. Those eight included Aroma Multicuisine (Gachibowli), Aditya Restaurant and Bar (Safilguda), Vaishnavi Darshini (Begum Bazar), Green Treat (Kothapet), Pakwan Grand (Raidurg), Godavari Ghumaghumalu (Hafeezpet), Sri Krishna Family Dhaba (Gopanpally) and Sri Sai Mess (Kondapur). Sixteen food samples were collected during that inspection.

Details of Violations and Follow-up Measures

TG SAFE issued improvement notices to six establishments—Rameshwaram Cafe (Madhapur), Hotel Shadab, Shah Ghouse Hotel and Restaurant (Gachibowli), Ishtaa (Gachibowli), Sahibs Barbeque and Pakka Local (Hitec City)—requiring corrective action on kitchen hygiene, refrigeration, drainage and pest-control records. Show-cause notices were served on three entities: 63 Degrees Modern Regional Buffet, Minerva Grand and Hotel Avasa. TG SAFE officials said the establishments will be re-inspected to verify compliance before any further action, including possible penalties, is taken.

Implications for Food Safety

The coordinated inspections, involving ten enforcement teams of food-safety officers and police personnel, underscore TG SAFE’s focus on public-health risks in Hyderabad’s core urban region. By halting operations of non-compliant venues and mandating corrective measures, the authority aims to curb the spread of food-borne illnesses and reinforce adherence to national food-safety standards. Continued monitoring and follow-up inspections are planned to ensure that the affected restaurants meet the required hygiene criteria before resuming service.
