Double Murder of Retired Army Couple Shocks Hathras Community

Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras district reported that a retired Army veteran, Shamsuddin, and his wife, Saddo Begum, were found hacked to death with a sharp-edged weapon inside their home in the Sadabad Kotwali area near the Agra bypass. The bodies were discovered around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday after neighbors raised an alarm when the house failed to open. Both victims were lying in a pool of blood with deep injuries to the neck and abdomen.

Superintendent of Police Chiranjeev Nath Sinha and Circle Officer Yogendra Krishna Narayan arrived at the scene with a police team, forensic experts and a dog squad. The SP described the killings as “prima facie” murders committed with a sharp-edged weapon and announced that five investigative teams had been formed, with additional senior officers camping at the site to identify the perpetrators. A case has been registered against unidentified accused, and “necessary legal action” is being taken, according to the SP.

Shamsuddin retired from the Army roughly two decades ago and operated a small fabrication workshop on the ground floor of the house. Police records indicate he maintained two marital homes, alternating residence between his first wife, Saddo Begum, and his second wife, Seema, who lives nearby with their three children. At the time of the incident, Shamsuddin was staying with his first wife in the Sadabad residence.

Both the SP and the Circle Officer stressed that the investigation is ongoing, with forensic analysis and canine units deployed to gather evidence. They confirmed that the investigation will continue until the unidentified suspects are apprehended.

Investigators are conducting a post-mortem examination and forensic review of the disturbed belongings found at the house. No arrests have been reported, and the motive behind the double homicide has not been ascertained.
