Launch Overview
On September 28, Honor officially launched the Magic 9 Pro Max, its first “Pro Max” flagship, at the Robot Phone event in China. The company presents the handset as a complete redesign of its annual flagship, emphasizing professional-grade video capabilities.
Design, Display, and Build
The device sports a 6.8-inch Supreme Black Diamond OLED panel with a 2868 × 1320 resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate and a peak HDR brightness of 10,000 nits (typical brightness up to 2,000 nits). A wide rectangular rear frame houses a grill-patterned imaging ring on the left, two vertically aligned sensor modules on the right, and an ARRI logo. It is offered in Olive/Moss Green, Silver, and Shadow Black and carries IP68, IP69 and IP69K water-dust ratings.
Imaging System
Honor partnered with German cinema equipment maker ARRI to embed cinematic-grade features. The rear camera array includes a 200 MP OmniVision OV52A main sensor (1/1.28-inch, f/1.57, OIS), a 200 MP Samsung S5KHPE periscope telephoto module, and a 50 MP ultrawide sensor. A 55 MP front sensor makes the phone the first Android device with a square-format selfie camera. The system runs on Honor’s self-developed H1 imaging chipset, supporting ARRI Log C3 Curve recording, 10-bit color depth and up to eight stops of CIPA-rated stabilization described as “gimbal-level.” Accessories include G200 mm and G500 mm teleconverters, a quad-LED flash, and a SmallRig-made mobile video kit.
Performance and Battery
Power is supplied by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 9 Elite Extreme Gen 6 platform, paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage, and cooled by an Honor Jade Plate-level system 2.0. The 8 800 mAh Qinghai Lake blade battery supports 100 W wired fast charging and 80 W wireless charging.
Market Availability & Pricing
The Magic 9 Pro Max ships in China starting at RMB 6,499 (? $970). Honor plans rollout to Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia and other key international markets in the near term.
