Detective Sergeant Henri Marsman of the Toronto Police Service’s Homicide and Missing Persons Unit said the first victim, 32-year-old Marcus Charles, was identified through fingerprints and was located in a rental vehicle. The second victim, 30-year-old Mohamud Kheyre, was found in a stolen vehicle. Autopsies confirmed that both men sustained fatal gunshot wounds before the fires ignited.
Marsman indicated investigators believe Charles was killed within a 24-hour period prior to the fire. Police have not released any suspect information and stated it is too early to determine whether the two vehicle fires are linked. However, they believe both victims were targeted and have emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
