Coordinated Dawn Raids in London and Surrounding Counties
In the early hours of a Tuesday, more than 800 officers from the Metropolitan Police, His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (His Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC)) and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) carried out coordinated dawn raids at 24 properties across London, Essex, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk. The operation resulted in 17 people being arrested on suspicion of participating in an organised crime group, money-laundering, cheating the public revenue, false accounting and conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm.
The arrests included 15 men aged 26-65 and two women aged 31 and 41. A 56-year-old man was additionally detained on suspicion of GBH after an officer was stabbed in the leg while executing a warrant in Cockfosters, Barnet. The injury was treated on-scene and later assessed as non-life-changing.
The FCA disclosed that the raids had already disrupted seven businesses and that it was actively pursuing a further 30 firms suspected of facilitating financial crime.
Large-Scale Drug Seizure in Rochdale
A separate six-month investigation by Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Organised Crime Group (SOCG) culminated in four arrests after raids on four addresses in Rochdale and a fifth address in Manchester. Detectives believe the group was supplying a mixture of Class A, B and C substances—including diazepam, bodybuilding products and weight-loss medications—both online and in person to customers nationwide.
Police recovered what they estimate to be up to one million tablets, valued at around £1 million, together with £60,000 in cash, more than 30 mobile phones, several laptops and a “dedicated drugs storage facility” on Manchester Road. The haul also contained a wide range of prescription-type medications.
