Fifteen-year-old Charlie Olivia Slack was a passenger in the Fiat 500. Emergency services and members of the public attempted resuscitation, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. A second passenger sustained injuries and was taken to University Hospital North Durham for treatment. Both drivers reported only minor injuries.
September 23 Crash on Crane Lane Row, Hamsterley
The evening of Wednesday, 23 September, a van carrying Andrew Lowther, 60, of the Butterknowle area, collided with a tractor on Crane Lane Row in Hamsterley. Lowther suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have appealed for witnesses and dash-cam footage, providing an incident number for contact.
