Google has begun rolling out the deprecation of Google Assistant on Android phones, tablets, Wear OS devices, headphones and Android Auto. The transition makes Gemini the default voice-assistant experience when users long-press the power button or swipe from the corners. The “Switch to Google Assistant” option has disappeared from the Gemini app’s account menu in version 17.60 stable and 17.62 beta, and the shortcut no longer appears at the bottom of the menu.

The deprecation was originally slated for 2025, then extended to 2026. In early August, Google announced a final timeline that moved the rollout forward to the start of September. User reports from the United States and Europe indicate that the migration is now fully underway, with Google Assistant absent on all tested devices and accounts.
