Historical Context

In November 2008, bombings in Guwahati killed twelve civilians and were linked to the National Democratic Front of Bodoland and the Bangladesh-based Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen (JMB). JMB, founded in 1998 and banned by India, operates alongside Indian Mujahideen, which has staged serial bombings nationwide. The arrests of Faruk Abdullah, Zakir Hussain and Chandbar Ali revive that cross-border network.
