13.3 Crore Voter Removal

History

Historical Context

In 2009 the Election Commission revised rolls after the 2008 delimitation, adding photo cards and deleting obsolete entries. A 2025 Special Intensive Revision triggered a Supreme Court order on 14 August 2025 to publish a searchable list of 65 lakh removed names. The September 2026 Congress and INDIA bloc protest mirrors earlier backlash, noting Phase II cut 10.2 % (about 5.2 crore) of voters.
