The jury found Gursimran Sahota, 29, guilty of first-degree murder for the death of 28-year-old Meninder Dhaliwal and also guilty of second-degree murder for the death of 36-year-old Satindera Gill. Tanvir Khakh, 25, was found guilty of first-degree murder for Dhaliwal’s killing, but the judge directed his acquittal on the Gill charge before deliberations began.
Background of the 2022 Shooting
The incident occurred around 12:19 p.m. PT in the 4300 block of Sundial Crescent, Whistler Village. Two men were reported shot; one died at the scene and the other succumbed after being taken to hospital. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) characterized the attack as a targeted act linked to an ongoing gang conflict.

IHIT’s news release emphasized that the shooting was part of a broader gang-related dispute. The agency noted that a first-degree murder conviction in Canada carries an automatic life sentence with no parole eligibility for 25 years, while a second-degree murder conviction also results in life imprisonment but the jury recommended a 20-year parole ineligibility period for Sahota.
