Smart Shooter Wins Up to $150 Million U.S. Counter-Drone Contract

Contract Announcement and Scope
The U.S. Department of War is scheduled to announce on September 29 a three-year indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract with a maximum ordering ceiling of $150 million for Smart Shooter’s SMASH counter-drone fire-control systems. Smart Shooter will be the sole supplier for the SMASH hardware, software updates, training and support. The rifle-mounted system uses artificial-intelligence-driven computer-vision and ballistic algorithms to calculate a firing solution and release a shot only when the weapon is aligned with a small drone; the soldier retains the final decision to engage.
Prior U.S. Engagement and Backlog
Smart Shooter has already secured multiple U.S. contracts: a $10.7 million Army award in May, a $3.4 million Marine Corps award in June, and a $1.8 million Navy award later that year. In the first half of 2026 the company signed binding contracts worth roughly $43 million, with the United States accounting for 55 % of that value. At the end of the second quarter, Smart Shooter’s order backlog stood at $51.6 million. The firm reports that thousands of SMASH systems are already deployed across U.S. military services.
Financial Scope of the New Agreement
The $150 million figure represents the upper limit of the framework, not a guaranteed purchase. The contract allows the Joint Interagency Task Force 401 (JIATF-401) to place individual orders over the next 36 months, expanding Smart Shooter’s footprint in the U.S. defense market and adding to its existing backlog.

Operational Impact
