History

Historical Context

After hiring Al Arbour in 1973, the New York Islanders built a dynasty that captured four straight Stanley Cups from 1980-83 and amassed a franchise-record 740 wins. Colorado Avalanche’s decision to retain coach Jared Bednar through the 2030-31 season echoes that long-term stability, aiming to cement a similar era of sustained success in the NHL.
