History

Historical Context

The 1999 Columbine High School massacre ignited a nationwide backlash against Marilyn Manson, prompting lawsuits that blamed his music for influencing violence. By 2005 Slipknot had sold 1.5 million albums worldwide, cementing their global influence and making Wembley Stadium a coveted venue for metal acts. Today, Marilyn Manson’s 2027 abuse trial and Tim Lambesis’s 2024 As I Lay Dying lineup overhaul echo the earlier public scrutiny ignited after Columbine. These recurring legal battles show metal’s confrontational image now draws heightened judicial scrutiny, prompting record labels and Wembley to enforce stricter conduct policies.
