Summary

Yankees Postseason Shutout

The Yankees defeated their opponent 9-0, their largest postseason shutout since the 1960 World Series.
Ben Rice drove in six runs, tying the Yankees' single-game postseason RBI record.
Cam Schlittler threw 117 pitches, the most for a Yankees pitcher in a postseason game since CC Sabathia's 121 in 2012.
Both Rice and Schlittler are Massachusetts natives drafted in mid rounds, illustrating Yankees scouting success.

History

Historical Context

In 1960 the New York Yankees, winners of their tenth pennant in twelve years, outscored the Pittsburgh Pirates 55–27 yet lost the World Series 4-3 when Bill Mazeroski hit the first walk-off home run in a Game 7 on October 13. That dramatic upset illustrates how postseason pressure can reshape rosters, a pattern echoed in today’s Yankees decisions.
