Alleged Abduction and Nationwide Warrants

Edmonton Police Service announced that 42-year-old Scot Macdermid is wanted on Canada-wide warrants for two counts of abduction in contravention of a custody order. The charges relate to the alleged taking of his son George, 6, and daughter Lesley, 9. Police say the father and children were last observed in northeast Edmonton in late August and later in Lloydminster, a city on the Alberta-Saskatchewan border. Investigators have determined that the case does not meet the criteria for an Amber Alert, but locating the children remains the department’s top priority.

Custody Dispute History

Court records show a prolonged custody battle between Macdermid and the children’s mother, who is a permanent resident of Canada but was born in the Dominican Republic. An Alberta Court of Appeal decision in 2024 dismissed Macdermid’s appeal of a lower-court ruling that granted the mother primary residence for the children in Edmonton. The appeal was dismissed on June 14, 2024. Earlier, an Emergency Protection Order was issued against Macdermid following an incident on June 26, 2023, leading to a permanent separation of the parents. The dispute included periods when the family lived in both Edmonton and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, and a contested trip to Ontario in August 2023 during which the mother alleges the children were taken without her knowledge.

Police Investigation and Public Appeal

Staff Sgt. Police have asked the public not to approach the father or the children and have urged anyone with information to contact Edmonton police or Crime Stoppers. The department continues to seek assistance in locating the family.

Legal Proceedings and Prior Charges

Macdermid’s legal history includes two counts of breaching a protection order and two counts of criminal harassment filed in June 2026, which were later withdrawn. The current warrants stem from the alleged abduction charges issued in early September, following the earlier public appeal for information in early September.

Ongoing Search and Public Guidance

Authorities describe Macdermid as approximately five feet five inches tall, weighing about 160 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Police stress the importance of community vigilance and reiterate that any sightings should be reported promptly, while advising that the father and children should not be approached for safety reasons.
