West Indies recorded three centuries (Campbell, Hope, Jangoo), a first in an ODI.
India’s bowling attack lacked senior pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, using inexperienced bowlers.
Kuldeep Yadav took 2-65, joining the 200-wicket club as the second-quickest Indian.
Naman Dhir twisted his ankle after 6.1 overs, reducing India’s spin options.

History

Historical Context

In 2002, India achieved its first 300-plus ODI chase, defeating England by two wickets at Lord’s after Sourav Ganguly’s unbeaten 183. The partnership with Rahul Dravid yielded 311 runs, the highest for any Indian pair at the time, surpassing the previous 286-run record. Today's 255-run opening stand between Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill mirrors that historic surge, while India again relied on a youthful bowling unit lacking senior pacers. The precedent set in 2002 underscores India's capacity to chase massive totals, prompting selectors to trust emerging talent for future high-pressure chases.
