History

Historical Context

On 24 February 2010, Sachin Tendulkar became the first player to hit an ODI double-century, scoring 200* against South Africa in Gwalior. His innings lasted 147 balls, lifting India to 351-5, the highest team total then recorded in international one-day cricket. In June 2024, Shubman Gill smashed 223 off 133 balls in Guwahati, while West Indies posted 405-7, shattering the 2010 benchmark. Consequently, coaches like Gautam Gambhir urge faster bowling assessments, fearing that inflated scores could undermine competitive balance in future ODIs international tournaments.
