By Drooid · · How we work
Nationwide Launch and Scope
The Salon Otef program is scheduled to begin on October 7, when gatherings will be held at 450 locations across Israel. Organized by 255, the Hostages and Families Organization, the events will feature former hostages, families of the living and deceased, massacre survivors, bereaved relatives, and members of security and rescue forces sharing personal testimonies. Organizers anticipate thousands of attendees in homes, community spaces, workplaces and other venues.
Organizers and Partner Groups
Salon Otef is coordinated by 255 and receives backing from the Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF), which frames the effort as a strategic component of the national commemoration process. Additional partners include the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the Atid LaOtef movement, the Nova Tribe Community Association, Edut 710, the Kumu movement, the Kibbutz Movement, and several other organizations. These groups provide logistical support, speaker guidance and resources to facilitate the face-to-face encounters.
Purpose and Format
The core aim is to ensure that the story of the October 7 massacre is told directly by those who experienced it. Each gathering centers on a personal testimony followed by an open conversation, with some sessions incorporating singing and live music. By preserving testimonies and fostering dialogue, the initiative seeks to address ongoing challenges such as coping with loss, rehabilitation, returning home and broader societal rebuilding.
Verbatim Quotes
- “To understand what happened to us on October 7 and what the hostages and their families have endured since then, we need to hear the stories firsthand from those who lived through them,” — Omri Miran
These elements combine to create a coordinated, community-wide effort to document and process the trauma of October 7 through lived experience.
