History

Historical Context

In 2004, the New York Yankees lost the American League Championship Series to the Boston Red Sox, ending a 95-year championship drought. The Red Sox clinched the series 4–3, with pitcher Curt Schilling delivering a 2.30 ERA and the team posting a 98-64 regular-season record. Similarly, the 2024 Yankees swept Boston 9–2 in the AL Wild Card Series, while pitcher Max Fried, now a Dodgers signee, delivered six strong innings. The recurring postseason clashes underscore the rivalry’s commercial value, prompting teams like the Dodgers to secure Fried’s $218 million deal to bolster postseason depth.
