Louisiana Detention Facility Opening
- U.S. officials say a 528-bed immigrant detention facility will open at England Airpark, Louisiana, within weeks.
- The center will be built from renovated Air Force barracks and new prefabricated structures.
- Intake, medical and other staff are already on site preparing for operations.
- The expansion will more than double the airport’s detention capacity, which currently holds 400 adult men.
- About 30 percent of all U.S. deportation flights depart from Alexandria’s airport.
