History

Historical Context

On October 1–13, 1903, the Boston Americans defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-3 in the first modern World Series, establishing the American League’s legitimacy. Boston rallied from a 3-1 deficit to win four straight games, a comeback not repeated until 1925. The Padres’ 4-1 win over the Cubs this season mirrors that early postseason drama.
