History

Historical Context

Since the ATP Tour organized the season-ending ATP Finals, where the champion earns 1,100–1,500 ranking points, top players have been expected to compete to protect their rankings. In 2026, the Philippines Tennis Association’s request to exempt Alex Eala from the Asian Games schedule was denied, showing how the tour’s point-driven system still pressures federations to prioritize ATP events.
