History

Historical Context

In 1997 Tony Blair’s New Labour won a 179-seat majority, prompting a wave of modernising reforms that reshaped internal governance and tightened party discipline. Those changes provide the backdrop for today’s Scottish Labour dispute, where MSP Monica Lennon’s alleged bullying prompts leader Michael Marra to invoke the same grievance procedures first established after the 1997 overhaul.
