History

Historical Context

In the 1954 World Cup final at Bern’s Wankdorf Stadion, West Germany overturned Hungary’s 32-match unbeaten run, winning 3-2 before 60,000 fans. The victory, dubbed the “Miracle of Bern,” symbolised post-war German renewal and introduced Adidas’s interchangeable-stud shoes, while Hungary’s loss highlighted the era’s tactical shift and lingering wartime tensions.
