History

Historical Context

The NFL introduced Thursday Night Football in 2006, debuting its first regular-season Thursday matchup on September 14, expanding primetime exposure significantly. That inaugural season featured twelve games, and ESPN secured a $30 million rights deal, while the Chicago Bears earned a 3-point victory margin average. Today, Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey plays through a fractured wrist while coach Mike McCarthy leverages Thursday Night Football tactics, mirroring the league’s early resilience focus. This continuity suggests that teams exploiting Thursday scheduling gain strategic edges, prompting future franchises to prioritize rapid preparation and injury management for competitive advantage.
