Historical Context

In July 1976 Palestinian and German militants hijacked Air France Flight 139 and diverted it to Entebbe, Uganda, where Israel’s Sayeret Matkal, commanded by Yonatan Netanyahu, stormed the airport. The operation rescued 102 hostages, killed three hijackers and left Netanyahu the only Israeli killed, shaping Entebbe as a model for swift military responses to airline terrorism. The Flydubai incident has revived those memories.
