History

Historical Context

After the September 11, 2001 attacks, the United States and Britain began Operation Enduring Freedom on 7 October 2001, bombing Taliban-controlled Afghanistan and launching a $150 billion war that lasted until the end of 2014. Decades later, Pakistan’s 1 October 2026 airstrikes in Kunar and Helmand echo those early cross-border raids, reviving fears of renewed regional instability.
