History

Historical Context

The July 2006 Lebanon War began when Hezbollah ambushed Israeli troops, prompting Israel’s 34-day assault that razed roughly 1,000 homes and displaced over a million civilians before UN Resolution 1701 forced a ceasefire. After the war, the Lebanese Army deployed 15,000 troops alongside UNIFIL, a framework that now underpins today’s capture of Zawtar al-Gharbiyah and renewed diplomatic appeals.
