History

Historical Context

The 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou introduced women’s boxing, with China’s Dong Cheng winning the 60 kg lightweight gold in November after 14 athletes from 14 nations competed at Foshan’s Lingnan Mingzhu Gymnasium. Building on that debut, Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting, who earned Olympic gold in 2024, captured the same weight-class title on 2 October 2026, underscoring East Asia’s growing strength in the sport.
