£25bn Cost Warning
- Prime Minister Andy Burnham told the Labour Party conference on 29 September 2026 that the UK will consider closer ties with the EU, including re-joining.
- Farage warned re-joining could cost £25 billion a year, raise immigration and force adoption of the euro.
- A Reuters poll in June 2026 showed 55% support re-joining, while a Guardian-cited poll found 59% favoured rejoining the EU.
- Burnham announced a UK-EU summit later in the year to outline the long-term relationship.
