History

Historical Context

Built between 1957 and 1961 and designed by Branko Žeželj, Novi Sad’s Žeželj Bridge linked Serbia and Hungary. On 23 April 1999 NATO bombed it, severing the Belgrade-Subotica rail line and leaving the city without any Danube crossing until the bridges were rebuilt by 2018.
