History

Historical Context

Amazon launched Prime on Feb 2 2005, offering free two-day shipping and quickly grew to 200 million members by 2021. The success spurred rivals such as Walmart and Target to roll out their own subscription services, prompting Amazon to expand its sales calendar with Prime Day in 2015 and the October-held Prime Big Deal Days in 2022, now featuring deep discounts on Ring, Blink and Dyson products.
