History

Historical Context

In 1994, Chicago demolished the former John Wayne Gacy residence at 8213 West Summerdale Avenue after the serial killer’s conviction for 33 murders. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s office documented 33 bodies and the Chicago Police Department seized over 2,000 photographs during the 1993 raid. Similarly, investigators now comb Raymond “RC” Horsch’s Olney home, uncovering one million images, firearms, $8,000 in drugs, while councilman Anthony Phillips plans demolition of the Chew Avenue house. These parallels show how extensive property raids can reshape neighborhoods, trigger prolonged street closures, and force legal debates over preserving versus razing sites scarred by violent crimes.
