Summary

Yemen forces airstrike

Yemen's internationally recognized government forces launched airstrikes on Houthi positions in Sanaa, Saada and Taiz.
Twenty warplane attacks over three hours targeted movements, personnel, vehicles and equipment in Taiz province.
Army spokesman Majed al-Nuzaili said the raids hit eleven high-value targets in Saada province.
About nineteen roads, including the main Sanaa-Taiz route, were closed as military operational areas.
The operations threaten Red Sea shipping lanes near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

Summary

Humanitarian agencies warn

Humanitarian agencies warn the siege of Taiz blocks essential medical supplies for hundreds of thousands.
Local Taiz authorities have appealed to the UN to end crossfire and lift the blockade.
International humanitarian law experts say the renewed air campaign raises heightened risk of civilian casualties.
Aid groups demand all parties respect humanitarian corridors for delivering food and medicine to the besieged city.

History

Historical Context

After the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 661 on 6 August 1990, comprehensive sanctions barred Iraq’s oil exports, later limiting sales to $2 billion per six months under the Oil-for-Food programme. Decades later, Yemeni airstrikes on Taiz and Saada close the Sanaa-Taiz highway, echoing how blockades can cripple civilian supply lines and draw international legal scrutiny.
