History

Historical Context

Operation Cast Lead began in December 2008, and UN satellite assessments later recorded more than 46,000 Gaza homes destroyed and thousands of factories and infrastructure damaged. Satellite firms such as Planet Labs and Google Maps’ February 2026 update now visually confirm the ruin of neighborhoods like Tel al-Sultan, illustrating how remote imaging has become a tool for international accountability.
