Summary

Counter-terrorism police reopened the 2025 fire-bomb probe at Farage’s south-London house after identifying a missed line of inquiry.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood posted on X that the charges raise serious questions about MPs' security.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct launched an investigation into the officer who first reviewed Farage’s home footage.
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has not commented publicly on the new terror charge, citing ongoing legal proceedings.

History

Historical Context

On 7 July 2005, four suicide bombers killed 52 civilians (56 total) and injured about 700, the deadliest UK terror attack since the 1988 Lockerbie bombing. The 2011 inquest chaired by Lady Justice Hallett rejected a public inquiry, issued nine security recommendations, and reshaped policy under Tony Blair and Charles Clarke. Joshua Kerry’s prosecution for targeting Nigel Farage and MP Ann Widdecombe reflects that legacy.
