History

Historical Context

After the Cowboys' 1999 season—its 40th year—lost Michael Irvin to a cervical-spine injury that ended his career and dropped the team from a 10-6 finish to an 8-8 record, head coach Chan Gailey was dismissed. Today the Miami Dolphins face disruption, with De'Von Achane’s ACL tear, Baker Mayfield’s thumb dislocation and Brian Burns’ injury prompting coach Kevin O’Connell to shift to a three-receiver set.
