The move filled the Giants’ quarterback void after Jaxson Dart’s knee surgery ruled him out long-term.

McCarthy, a 2024 first-round pick, must learn the playbook before earning game time.

Summary

Vikings Add McCarthy

McCarthy fell to third-string on the Vikings after Minnesota added Kyler Murray and Carson Wentz.
He finished the 2025 season with a 6-4 record, 1,632 yards, 11 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
Former Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell called the trade a tough day but still believes in McCarthy's potential.
The Giants’ quarterback search also considered veteran Jameis Winston, who started the next game after Dart’s injury.
